08 - Fire Protection Flashcards
FIRE PROTECTION
- Which areas of the aircraft have fire extinguishing capability?
- Engines
- APU
- Lower Cargo Compartments
- What fire protection functions are available without battery power?
None
- Can you discharge the fire bottles using only battery power?
Yes
- How is the fire warning bell silenced?
Pressing either Master FIRE WARN button or BELL CUTOUT
- How is an engine fire extinguished?
By pulling the respective Fire Switch and rotating it. This discharges one of two halon bottles
- Which systems are affected by pulling an engine fire switch and how are they affected?
- Closes spar fuel shutoff and engine fuel shutoff valves
- Bleed valve & pack valve closed
- Trips the generator control relay & breaker
- closes hydraulic shutoff valve
- Arms one squib on each bottle
- Allows the engine fire switch to be rotated
-Reverser is disabled
- How is a dual loop failure of an Engine Fire Detection System indicated?
An amber FAULT light on the Overheat/Fire Protection Panel
- How many fire extinguishing bottles are provided for the APU?
One
- Does the APU have automatic fire extinguishing?
No
- What happens when pulling the APU fire switch?
• provides a backup to the automatic shutdown feature
• closes the APU fuel shutoff valve
• closes the APU bleed air valve
• closes the APU air inlet door
• trips the APU generator control relay and breaker
• allows the APU fire switch to be rotated for discharge
• arms the APU fire extinguisher bottle squib
- Where is the APU Fire Ground Control panel located?
Right main wheel well
- What does placing the fire detection TEST switch to FAULT/INOP test?
The systems ability to detect a fault or inop equipment within itself
- What does placing the fire detection TEST switch to OVHT/FIRE test?
The overheat and fire detection loops on both engines
- What is indicated by the illumination of the DETECTOR FAULT light on the CARGO FIRE
panel?
One or more detectors in the Lower Cargo Compartment Fire Detection System has failed
- What fire protection and extinguishing equipment is available in the lower cargo compartments?
2 halon for suppression bottles, one HRD and one LRD
