04 - Automatic Flight Flashcards
AUTOMATIC FLIGHT
1. From left to right, what are the three Flight Mode Annunciator (FMA) categories?
A/T / Roll / Pitch
AUTOMATIC FLIGHT
2. How is control wheel steering indicated?
By display of CWS mode annunciation above the A/P status display and either CWS R or CWS P on FMA (with white box flashing for 10 sec).
AUTOMATIC FLIGHT
3. How is independent flight director operation indicated?
Illumination of both MA lights (white)
AUTOMATIC FLIGHT
4. When do the flight directors operate independently?
Both FD switches ON
Manual flight, and
TO/GA mode engaged below 400 ft RA, or
APP mode engaged with LOC and GS captured
AUTOMATIC FLIGHT
5. Except for when APP modes (LOC/GS) are active, how many autopilots may be engaged
at once?
Only one (I’m 99% sure this is correct but I can’t find this answer in the FH)
AUTOMATIC FLIGHT
6. What would cause the A/P to disengage?
- Pushing either A/P disengage switch
- Pushing the A/P DISENGAGE bar down
- Column or wheel force override
- Activating either pilot’s control wheel trim switch
- Moving either STAB TRIM PRI or the STAB TRIM B/U cutout switch to the CUTOUT position
- Pushing either TO/GA switch with a single A/P engaged below ft 2,000 RA
- Pushing either TO/GA switch with a single A/P engaged at and above ft 2,000 RA with flaps not up or G/S engaged
- One second after activation of stick shaker if A/P is engaged in ALT HOLD, VNAV PTH (in a level segment), VNAV PTH (Flaps 15 or greater), V/S (Flaps 15 or greater), or G/S (single channel only) modes.
- 5 minutes after continuous activation of stick shaker if not in any of the above modes
- 5 minutes after continuous activation of stick shaker if the A/P was re-engaged
- Pushing either TO/GA switch after touchdown with both A/Ps engaged in CMD
- Either left or right IRS system failure or FAULT light illuminated
- Loss of electrical power or a sensor input
- Loss of respective hydraulic system pressure
AUTOMATIC FLIGHT
7. When will the STAB OUT OF TRIM light illuminate?
- A/P not trimming the stabilizer properly when the A/P is engaged, or
- partial failure of an FCC
AUTOMATIC FLIGHT
8. What does a flashing amber A/T alert light indicate?
An A/T airspeed error where airspeed differs from commanded value by +10 or -5 kts and is not approaching commanded value in flight with flaps not fully retracted
AUTOMATIC FLIGHT
9. Which system provides the N1 limit for the A/T?
In normal operation, the FMC
Otherwise, a boxed white A/T LIM replaces the thrust mode and the EECs provide a degraded thrust limit
AUTOMATIC FLIGHT
10. What is the autothrottle mode when the pitch mode is V/S?
Speed (MCP SPD)
AUTOMATIC FLIGHT
11. The bank angle selector will limit the angle of bank in which modes?
HDG SEL or VOR
AUTOMATIC FLIGHT
12. How is LOC and GS modes armed?
By pushing the APP pb
AUTOMATIC FLIGHT
13. When is an altitude deviation alert provided?
At 200 ft from selected altitude
AUTOMATIC FLIGHT
14. What does THR HLD on the FMA indicate?
The A/T automatically engages the THR HOLD mode during the takeoff at 84 kts. When THR HOLD is engaged, power is removed from the A/T servo motors preventing thrust levers from moving during the takeoff roll and initial climb out. Two separate functions remove power from the servo motors:
- a software function, and
- a hardware function
Only when both functions have removed power to the servo motors will the A/T mode display THR HLD on the FMA.
AUTOMATIC FLIGHT
15. After TO/GA is selected on a two-engine go around, the FD will command an initial pitch attitude of approximately how many degrees?
15 degrees nose up
