The spinal cord
What is the dorsal cavity?
Towards the back
What is the ventral cavity?
Towards the front
What structures would you find in the pelvic cavity?
Hips, reproductive structures
What structures would you find in the abdominal cavity?
stomach, abdominals, liver, spleen, intestines
What structures would you find in the pleural cavity?
lungs
What structures would you find in the thoracic cavity?
pleural and pericardial cavities
What structures would you find in the pericardial cavity (mediastinum)?
heart
Describe synovial membrane
connective tissue membrane, within joints, lubricate to decrease friction
Describe serous membrane
epithelial tissue membrane, double layered sac, parietal and visceral, decrease friction
Describe parietal membrane
The part of serous membrane that sits on the inside of the cavity (furthest from organ)
Describe visceral membrane
The part of serous membrane that sits on the outside of the organ (closest from organ)
Describe mucous membrane
A type of epithelial membrane that lines structures that open from the inside to outside of the body to trap pathogens to protect the body
Describe cutaneous membrane
Skin. Outside of body. A barrier that protects the internal organs of the body
What type of membrane is found on the outside of the organ?
deepest
Visceral
VOO - visceral outside of organ
What type of membrane is found on the inside of the cavity?
superficial
Parietal
PIC - Parietal inside of cavity
What membrane is A?
Visceral pericardium
Outside of organ = VOO Deep
Pericardium = surrounding heart
What is membrane is B?
Parietal pericardium
inside of cavity/superficial
pericardium = surrounding heart
What membrane is A?
Visceral pleura
VOO = deep, outside of organ
Pleura = lungs
What is membrane B?
Parietal Pleura
inside of cavity PIC - superficial
pleura = lungs
