Australia’s universal health-insurance scheme that subsidises health care

What does Medicare cover?
Subsidises gp visits, eye tests, x rays and blood tests
What doesn’t Medicare cover
Physio, most dental, glasses, cosmetic surgery
What is the scheduled fee
cost of service as set by the government

only charges the scheduled fee
gap payment
difference between the 85% government subsidises and scheduled fee for specialist, patient pays

Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. Subsidises medications
Medicare levy surcharge
An additional tax charged for high income earners to encourage them to take out PHI
Lifetime health cover loading
Those over the age of 30 get charged an extra 2% for every yeat they are aged over 30
Government rebate
The government provides a rebate “cash back” to help cover costs of PHI
