03b. Smoking and Vaping Flashcards
What is sticky blood?
Chemicals in the blood make blood clotting cells more sticky than normal (from smoking). This increases the strain on the heart and increases the likelihood of clots.
What is Coronary heart disease?
When blood vessels in the heart are damaged or blocked preventing blood flow and oxygen to heart muscle.
What is Cerebrovascular disease? (CVA, stroke)
When blood vessels feeding the brain with oxygen become damaged or blocked decreasing blood and oxygen to the brain.
What is Hypertension/High blood pressure?
When blood is being pumped through the arteries at increased pressure (above 120/80)
What can nicotine and carcinogenics increase risk of?
Lung cancer, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
What can vapes without nicotine lead to?
Increased throat irritation, lung tissue damage/death, addiction.
What is lung cancer?
Uncontrollable and abnormal growth of cells in the lungs.
What is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)?
Progressive, long term lung diseases where damage to the lungs obstructs oxygen intake making breathing difficult.
What is asthma?
A chronic condition that affects the small air passages of the lungs. When exposed to certain triggers the airways narrow, making it difficult to breathe.
What is shortness of breath (SOB)?
Finding it difficult to breathe/unable to breathe normally
SOB
Shortness of breath
CHD
Coronary heart disease
MI
Myocardial infarction (heart attack)
CVA
Cerebrovascular accident (stroke)
Describe Angina
Refers to chest pain due to lack of blood and oxygen to the heart
COPD
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
HTN
Hypertension (high blood pressure)
What are two common forms of COPD?
Emphysema and bronchitis.
Which condition has chest pain due to lack of blood and oxygen to the heart
Angina
Which condition refers to chemicals in the blood make blood clotting cells more sticky than normal and increases the strain on the heart and likelihood of clots.
What is sticky blood?
Which condition refers to when blood vessels in the heart oxygen are damaged or blocked decreasing blood and oxygen flow within the heart.
Coronary heart disease (CHD)
Which condition refers to when blood vessels feeding the brain with oxygen become damaged or blocked decreasing blood and oxygen to the brain.
Cerebrovascular disease? (CVA, stroke)
What condition refers to blood being pumped through the arteries at increased pressure (above 120/80)
Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Which consition refers to uncontrollable growth of abnormal cells in the lungs.
Lung cancer
Progressive, long term lung diseases where damage to the lungs obstructs oxygen intake making breathing difficult.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
A chronic condition that affects the small air passages of the lungs. When exposed to certain triggers the airways narrow, making it difficult to breathe.
Asthma
Finding it difficult to breath/unable to breathe normally
Shortness of breath (SOB)
What is coronary artery disease (CAD)
When blood vessels feeding the heart with oxygen become damaged or blocked. A heart attack occurs if one of the vessels becomes completely blocked.
Which condition relates to blood vessels feeding the heart with oxygen become damaged or blocked. A heart attack occurs if one of the vessels becomes completely blocked.
Coronary artery disease (CAD)
What is smoking?
Smoking is the inhalation of nicotine and carcinogenic materials
