04.2 Coeliac Trunk Anatomy Flashcards
What are the three main branches of the coeliac trunk?
Left gastric artery.
Splenic artery.
Common hepatic artery.
What does the left gastric artery supply?
Oesophagus.
Cardia area of the stomach.
(Anastomoses with the right gastric artery)
What branches does the splenic artery give rise to?
Left gastroepiploic.
Short gastrics.
Pancreatic branches.
What does the left gastroepiploic artery supply?
Greater curvature of the stomach.
Anastamoses with the right gastroepiploic artery
What do the short gastric arteries supply?
Fundus of the stomach.
What do the pancreatic branches of the splenic artery supply?
The body and tail of the pancreas.
What does the splenic artery look like?
Very tortuous appearance.
What are the two main branches of the common hepatic artery?
Proper hepatic.
Gastroduodenal.
What are the branches of the proper hepatic artery?
Right gastric artery.
Right and left hepatic artery.
Cystic artery.
What does the right gastric artery supply?
The pylorus.
Lesser curvature of the stomach.
What do the right and left hepatic arteries supply?
Liver.
What does the cystic artery supply?
The gallbladder.
What are the branches of the gastroduodenal artery?
Right gastroepiploic artery.
Superior pancreaticoduodenal artery.
What does the right gastroepiploic artery supply?
Greater curvature of the stomach.
Greater omentum.
What is another name for gastroepiploic?
Gastro-omental.
What does the superior pancreaticoduodenal artery supply?
Head of the pancreas.
What is the only organ to receive blood supply from all three main arteries of the coeliac trunk?
Stomach.
What artery supplies part of the pancreas that isn’t a branch of the coeliac trunk?
Inferior pancreaticoduodenal artery - a branch of the SMA.
What artery is a peptic ulcer most likely to erode?
Gastroduodenal artery.
What artery is a gastric ulcer likely to erode through?
The right and left gastric arteries (as these supply the lesser curvature of the stomach)
What is coeliac trunk compression syndrome?
Where the median arcuate ligament lies anteriorly to the coeliac trunk rather than superiorly.
This causes pain due to the ischaemia of the abdominal organs.
What branch of the coeliac trunk is most likely to have an aneurysm?
Splenic artery.
Put these branches of the aorta in order of where they are given off superiorly to inferiorly:
Renal arteries SMA Gonadal arteries Coeliac trunk IMA
