Define Motor Skills
The function of moving muscles in order to execute a specific action.
What are the two types of motor skills?
Gross Motor Skills and Fine Motor Skills
Define Gross Motor Skills
Use of bigger muscles and body parts, like arms and legs. For example a student can use sidewalk chalk or washable paint on the sidewalk or concrete to promote the using of the legs as students squat and move around.
Define Fine Motor Skills
The use of smaller muscles and body parts, like fingers and toes, and can be promoted with the same sidewalk chalk activity but instead of legs you are using muscles such as your hands, wrists, and fingers to control the chalk and create art.
Define Instructional Prompts
A stimuli that a teacher or parent can use to gain a targeted response from students. Some of these include verbal, written, modeling gesturing, and various resources that can be used such as flashcards, body language, or questions.
Define Cues
An action that is meant to help students start or continue a movement that he or she has previously learned and performed. this can be considered a signal to the students on what movement to execute. Depending the age of the student we can see different forms of this based on age.
