Transmission
A
- Bite of Aedes mosquito
- Possible sexual transmission- low
- No evidence of spread from breast milk - but it is detected in milk

Symptoms
A
- Minimal sympt
- Self limiting- rash, itching, headache, arthralgia

Congenital zika virus syndrome
A
- From exposure to Zika in utero
- Higher risk if exposed in early gestation
- Risk of microcephaly, cerebral calcifications, ventriculomegaly, FGR, oligo, talipes

Prevention
A
- Minimize risk of mosquito bites
- Insect repellent
- Netting when sleeping

If preg and exposed
A
- Inform obs team
- Monitor for symptoms
- Test if symptomatic
- If tests +, fetal med scan

If considering pregnancy
A
- Avoid zika areas
- If both partners travelled- Barrier cont for 3 months
- If male travelled- Barrier cont for 3 months
- If female travelled- Barrier cont for 2 months
