Before discharge
A
- Ensure mum passes urine
- Baby’s health
- If baby has not passed mec, tell parents to escalate if not passed within 24h from birth
- Ensure baby is feeding well (at least 1 observed feed)
- Consider safeguarding issues

Causes of jaundice
A
- ABO incompatibility
- haemolysis
- Sepsis
- Liver disease
- Metabolic disorders
- G6PD

Checking for jaundice
A
- Check in natural light
- Examine sclera, gums and skin

Mx of jaundice
A
- Check bilirubin levels
- Repeat in 18h if RF, if not 24h
- Phototherapy
- Check levels after 4-6h after starting
- 6-12h once dropping
- Exchange tx if very high levels
