Explain how the Lungs govern respiration?
The lungs extract “Clean Qi” and combines with Gu - Qi from the spleen which forms Zong Qi (gathering Qi).
The kidney works with the lungs to control and regulate breathing.
How do the lungs regulate water passages?
- Respiration (fluid to mist)
- Sweating
- Urination
What is the main direction of the lungs?
Descending.
What is the Corporeal Soul?
Po
Most physical and human being part of the soul. The Po is yin compared to the Hun (ethereal soul).
Po dies with the death of the body. Associated with sensations and movements.
What is the smell and sound of the lungs?
Smell: Rotten
Sound: Weeping
How is defensive Qi related to the lungs?
It protects against pathogenic factors. Tonifying the lungs with strengthen defensive Qi.

How does the spleen support the production of blood?
Food Qi is transported by the spleen to the lungs where governing qi ascends to the heart to form blood.
