Fu Organs Flashcards
What are the functions of Fu (yang) organs?
Yang organs do not store but are constantly filled and emptied. They deal with impure substances such as food, urine & stools.
What is San Jiao?
Includes the upper, middle and lower burner.
It mobilise’s Yuan Qi, controls the transportation and penetration of qi.
Controls water passes and excretion of fluids.
How does San Jiao mobilise Yuan Qi?
The triple burner allows Yuan Qi to carry out its functions.
Yuan Qi emerges from the SJ to the organs then SJ allows Yuan Qi to differentiate and into the channels.
What does each burner do?
Upper: Diffusion of fluids, diaphragm upwards
Middle: Transformation & transportation of fluids,
Lower: Excretion of fluids, below umbilicus
How does the SJ support Qi Mechanisms?
Supports the flow of Qi in all 4 qi mechanisms.
Ensures free flow and free passage
Why is the Upper burner like a mist?
Distribution of fluids all over the body in the space between skin and muscles by the lungs in the form of fine vapour
Why is the middle burner like a maceration chamber?
Digestion and transportation of food and drink. Aids in digestion.
Why is the lower burner like a ditch?
Separation of essences into clean and dirty. LB directs the separation.
What is the SJ paired with in terms if Yin and Yang?
Pericardium
What is SJ paired with in terms of the 6 divisions?
Gall Bladder. (wood phase)
What is the function of the Gall bladder?
ShaoYang Fire
Stores and excretes bile
Controls decisiveness
Controls the sinews
How does the GB control the sinews?
Gall bladder provides qi to the sinews to ensure their proper movement and agility. Works with the liver to do this.
How does the GB relate to decisiveness?
Controls the capacity to make decisions and will help the other organs to do so.
How does the SJ govern water and why does it need to be clear?
Needs to be clear and unobstructed to govern the movement of water in the form of bodily fluids.
How does the GB store and excrete bile?
Receives bile from the liver and secretes during digestion.
What are the functions of the stomach?
Controls receiving Controls rotting and ripening of food Controls the transportation of food essences Controls the descending of qi Origin of fluids Controls the 4 limbs
How does the stomach control the rotting and ripening of food?
Because it breaks things down to be transformed by the spleen.
The stomach is the origin of qi and blood as food qi is extracted from the stomach which is later transformed into blood in the heart.
What ZangFu is the stomach paired with?
Spleen.
How does the stomach control the transportation of food essences?
Because food is first digested by the stomach where qi is extracted and transformed by the spleen. The stomach transport food essence to all of the organs. Stomach influences the pulse.
How does the stomach control descending qi?
Because the stomach sends transformed food down to the small intestine.
Why is the stomach the origin of fluids?
Because the stomach processes food and drink where fluids are formed. The stomach is the gate to the kidneys.
What is the stomach’s relationship with the spleen?
They work together to transform and transport food essence.
What mental aspects are associated with the stomach?
If there is stomach fire this will agitate the mind.
Wanting to be alone, talking or singing.
What are the functions of the small intestine?
Controls receiving and transforming
Separates fluids
