6 extraordinary organs Flashcards
What are the 6 extraordinary organs?
- Brain
- Marrow
- Bone
- Blood Vessels
- Gall Bladder
- Uterus
What is the function of the brain?
Controls memory, concentration, sight, hearing, touch and smell.
Controls intelligence
Sea of Marrow: controls sight, hearing, smell and taste.
How is the brain the sea of marrow?
The brain is filled by marrow, marrow originates from the kidneys.
What is the relationship between the brain and Zang fu?
Kidneys and the heart are closely related to the functioning of the brain. Kidney stores essence and the heart governs blood, if blood and essence are abundant the brain is in good health.
What is Marrow?
Kidney essence is the origin of marrow
Nourishes the brain and spinal cord.
Fills the bones.
Contributes to making blood.
How does marrow contribute to making blood?
As the kidneys generate bone-marrow this generates the liver which stores blood.
What is the relationship between marrow and Zang Fu?
– Kidney governs bone and produces Marrow.
– Qi and Blood support Kidney Essence to produce Marrow.
What is bone?
Houses marrow
If kidney essence and marrow are deficient, the bones will lose nourishment.
What is the relationship between bone and zang fu?
– Bone is governed by Kidney. The functions of Bone is supported by Kidney Essence. Thus the condition of Bone reflects the condition of the Kidney.
What is the relationship between blood vessels and Zang fu?
– Blood Vessels are governed by the Heart.
– Spleen Qi is very important to support Blood Vessels holding the Blood in.
– Kidney Essence contributes to the filling of Blood Vessels.
– Qi and Blood fill the Blood Vessels and move within the Blood Vessels
What is the gall bladder?
It stores bile which is considered a pure fluid.
Gall bladder effects our capacity for making decisions.
What are the functions of the uterus?
- Regulates conception, menstruation and pregnancy.
- Adequate blood supply to carry out its functions
- Functions as Yin as it stores blood
- Functions as a yang organ as it discharges blood and foetus
- Matures and begins menses by 14
- Nourishing the foetus
How does blood transform into breast milk?
Blood can be transformed into breastmilk hence why there is no menstruation during pregnancy or after childbirth.
What extraordinary vessels is the uterus closely linked to?
Closely related to Chong and Ren which both originate from the space bewteen the kidney
What organs are closely related to the uterus?
Organs involved in Uterus: heart, spleen, liver, kidney
