- A rise in immigration led to status frustration for many migrants during the 1960/70s
- Joining a youth culture is the response to a racist capitalist society
- Youth culture could be seen as a pride in cultural heritage rather than a rejection of white youth culture
- Stereotyping by key agents within society such as the police create negative labels of young people
