When does puberty occur?
Between the ages of 10-18
Name the parts of the male reproductive system
Penis, testis, scrotum, glands, bladder, sperm duct and urethra
Name the parts of the female reproductive system
Vagina, cervix, uterine lining, uterus, oviduct and ovary
What are the parts of a sperm cell?
Flagella, middle piece, cell membrane, nucleus containing DNA and head
What are the parts of an egg cell?
Nucleus containing DNA, cytoplasm, membrane and jelly coat
Name three things that happen in puberty in men
E.g. Facial hair grows, voice deepens, get more muscular, sperm produces, pubic hair grows and penis gets larger
Name three things that happen in puberty in females
E.g. Breasts grow, eggs are released, hips widen, thighs get fatter, periods start and pubic hair grows
When are the three main stages of the menstrual cycle?
Days 1-7, days 8-14, days 15-28
What happens is day 1-7 of the menstrual cycle?
The uterus lining begins to break down and the egg passes out through the vagina in menstruation
What happens on day 8-14 of the menstrual cycle?
A hormone is released and an egg follicle grows inside the ovary until it is fully matured. On day 14 it is released. The uterus lining begins to build up again
What happens between day 14-28 of the menstrual cycle?
Between days 14-21 the egg moves along the oviduct and into the uterus. If the egg is fertilised it will embed itself into the uterus lining and develop into a baby. If it is not fertilised the hormones being produced decrease and the uterus lining begins to decrease
When and where is the best time and place to get pregnant?
Between days 14 and 17 in the oviduct
What is it called when an embryo sinks into the soft lining of the uterus?
Implantation
What is it called when the ovaries stop producing eggs?
Menopause
Which sex goes through puberty first?
Girls
