Year 7 Cells Flashcards
What are the life processes an organism needs to carry out to be classified as living?
Movement
Reproduction
Sensitivity
Nutrition
Excretion
Respiration
Growth
What is food a source of?
Energy and raw materials
What are the main waste products humans make?
Carbon dioxide and urine
What are the parts of an animal cell?
Nucleus, cell membrane and cytoplasm
What are the parts of a plant cell?
Nucleus, cell membrane, cell wall, cell membrane, vacuole, cytoplasm and chloroplasts
What does the cell membrane do?
It holds the cell together and controls the movement of substances in and out of the cell
What does cytoplasm do?
It is a jelly like material and it is where most of cellular reactions take place
What does the nucleus do?
It is the location of the cell’s DNA and it controls how the cell works
What does the vacuole do?
It is a cavity that holds the cell’s nutrients and water and allows plant cells to take in or lose water without bursting
What does the cell wall do?
It is made of cellulose and it and it protects and supports the cell
What does the chloroplast do?
It is where photosynthesis happens and it absorbs sunlight to make food
How do you prepare a microscope?
Scrape one layer of cell onto the slide
Put a drop of iodine/ methylene blue on it stain cell walls
Slide the clip on to the stage and slide the clip in place
Cover the slide
What are the building blocks of organisms? (____>______>______>______)
Cells to tissue to organs to organ systems
How does a cell divide?
The DNA doubles The nucleus splits in two The cell membrane starts to form The cells grow bigger When the cells are fully grown they can divide again
