What does Flexion mean?
The angle at the joint decreases
What does Extension mean?
The angle at the joint increases
What does Dorsiflexion mean?
The angle at the ankle decreases (toe point up)
What does Plantarflexion mean?
The angle at the ankle increases (toe point down)
What does abduction mean?
The limb moves away from the midline (star jump outwards)
What does adduction mean?
The limb moves towards the centre of the body (star jump inwards)
What does Pronation mean?
Palms facing to the rear in anatomical positions (basketball form shot)
What does supination mean?
Palms facing the front in anatomical positions (chest mark)
What does Rotation mean?
Movement about an axis (fixed points, turning your head, rotating lower back in tennis forehand)
What does Circumduction mean?
360° rotation in a circular path (bowling in cricket, which happens at the shoulder)
