4. Year 10 - ATP and energy systems Flashcards
What is ATP
The source of energy for use and storage at the cellular level
What is the structure of ATP?
One Adenosine attached to 3 triphosphates, one breaks of and creates energy
Characteristics of the CP-ATP system?
Fuel - Creatine Phosphate (CP)
Max intensity - 95-100%
Duration - 7-10 seconds
Sporting examples: Discuss, shotput, powerlifting
Characteristics of the Anaerobic Glycolysis?
Fuel - Glycogen (Carbohydrates)
Near Maximal intensity
Duration: 1-2 minutes
By-Product - Lactic Acid
Sports- 400M, Basketball (multiple fast breaks in a row)
Characteristics of the Aerobic system?
Fuels - Carbs, Fats, Protein
Endurance Events
Duration - Indefinitely
Sports - Marathan, 1500m (3m40s).
Causes of fatigue in the CP-ATP system
CP depletion
Causes of fatigue in the Anaerobic Glycolysis system
Accumulation of H+ ions
Causes of fatigue in the Aerobic system
Glycogen Depletion (90 minutes approx)
Dehydration
