3. Year 10 - Acute Responses of the Respiratory System Flashcards
List the Acute Responses of the RS
Increased Respiration Rate (more breaths)
Increased Tidal Volume (breath deeper)
Increased Ventilation (more volume per minute)
What does Ventilation equal?
V = RR * TV
Definition of VO2 max
The maximum volume of oxygen that can be inhaled, transported, and utilized in the body in one minute.
What does VO2 Max involve?
It involves the Respiratory System, Cardiovascular System and the Muscular System.
What VO2 Max is used to measure
Aerobic Capacity/Cardiovascular Fitness. The body’s ability to use O2 to create energy.
How do we indirectly measure VO2 Max?
You complete a fitness test then a predicted VO2 max can be calculated (Beep test, Yoyo test, Harvard Step test etc.)
How do we directly measure VO2 Max?
Do a VO2 Max treadmill test with a face mask connected to a computer, which measures the volume of O2 being used.
What two types of units is VO2 measured in?
L/Min or mL/min/Kg (Kg-body weight, mL of oxygen).
