Wrong Questions Flashcards
Explain two factors that affect the rate of urbanisation
-natural increase
-rural to urban migration
Factors affecting land cost in urban areas
-proximity to transport links
-proximity to city centre
-quality of infrastructure in that area
Energy gap
-difference between the energy demand and the ability of a country to meet it within its own borders
factors affecting location of quaternary sector employment
-good transport connections to reach a skilled workforce
-reliable internet access so they can operate their business
-proximity to a university to provide a skilled workforce
-large land for room to grow
factors affecting location of quaternary sector employment
-transport so goods can reach the market efficiently
-proximity to raw materials as they are heavy to transport
-availability of land as they may need to expand
-access to labour force to there is a sufficient supply of labour for production
-access to reliable supplies of electricity so production of goods is not disrupted
factors affecting location of primary sector
-proximity to natural resources
-availability of workforce
-land for growing crops
-flat land
factors affecting location of tertiary sector
-transport links so workers can access the site
-access to market so it is profitable
-reliable power supply
-access to skilled labour
Factors affecting land use patterns
-cost of land: businesses are in more expensive land areas like CBD as they can afford it, residential in least
-proximity to transport routes: businesses and residents (more convenient, more customers) but industries usually not there (too expensive, less profit)
-space needed or activities, e.g. business parks are usually not in the CBD as less land is available, they need lots of land for their many facilities
Suburbanisation definition
Outward spread of urban areas, from the movement of people to the suburbs from urban areas
Factors affecting global energy demand
-climate change leads to people wanting to use renewable energy sources as no GHGs
-developments in technology, use energy more
-population increase: more people use energy
-economic development: more developed = more use of energy
Factors affecting global energy production
-natural resources: new oil found = more fossil fuels used
-if demand shifts to renewable energy sources, then efforts will be made to produce more, leading to less demand fro non renewable sources
-big producers being in war would mean they produce less as they would focus their resources on the war
Factors affecting the emergence of megacities
-rural urban migration
-high birth rate
-multiplier effect
-economies of scale
-concentration of employment possibilities
Energy efficiency
The goal to reduce the energy needed to provide services and products
