Wrist Flashcards
What innervates the superficial structures in the palm and what action does it provide?
Superficial branch of ulnar nerve; wrinkles and tenses the skin over the hypothenar eminence.
Flexor retinaculum insertions?
Attaches medically to hook of hamate and pisiform. Laterally attaches to scaphoid and trapezium.
What is the roof of the carpal tunnel?
Flexor retinaculum.
Lateral boundary of carpal tunnel?
Tubercles of scaphoid and trapezium.
Medial border of carpal tunnel?
Hook of hamate and pisiform.
Floor of carpal tunnel?
Palmar ulnocarpal and radiocarpal ligaments.
Origin and insertion of abductor pollicis brevis?
Origin: flexor retinaculum and tubercle of trapezium.
Inserts: base of proximal phalanx of thumb.
Innervation and consequent action of abductor pollicis brevis?
Innervated by recurrent branches of the median nerve to abduct the thumb.
Origin and insertion of flexor pollicis brevis?
Origin: deep head originates off trapezoid and capitate. Superficial head originates from flexor retinaculum and tubercle of trapezium.
What is innervation and action of flexor pollicis brevis?
Innervated by recurrent branch of the median nerve and flexes the carpometacarpal and metacarpophalangeal joint of thumb.
Origin and insertion of opponens pollicis?
Origin: flexor retinaculum, scaphoid and trapezium.
Inserts on entire length of lateral border of metacarpal bone.
Innervation and action of opponens pollicis?
Innervated by recurrent branches of median nerve and occasionally also deep branch of ulnar nerve. Action is thumb opposition to other fingers.
Abductor digiti minimi origin and insertion?
Origin: pisiform bone and tendon of flexor carpi ulnaris.
Insertion: base of proximal phalanx of 5th digit.
Innervation and action of abductor digiti minimi?
Innervated by deep branch of the ulnar nerve and abducts pinky finger.
Origin and insertion of flexor digiti minimi?
Origin: hamulus of hamate and flexor retinaculum.
Inserts on base of proximal phalanx of 5th digit.
