Gluteal Region Flashcards
Cluneal nerves supply what?
Skin of gluteal region
Origin and insertion of gluteus Maximus?
Origin: outer surface ilium and iliac crest, dorsal surface of sacrum and lateral aspect of coccyx and sacrotuberous ligament
Insertion: IT tract and gluteal tuberosity of femur
What innervates gluteus Maximus?
Inferior gluteal nerve
What does gluteus Maximus do?
Extends thigh and laterally rotates
Glute med origin and insertion?
Origin: between anterior and posterior gluteal lines
Insertion: lateral aspect of greater trochanter of femur
What innervates glute med?
Superior gluteal nerve
What action does glute med perform?
Abduction and medial rotation
Where does glute min originate and insert?
Origin: between anterior and inferior gluteal lines
Insertion: anterior aspect of greater trochanter and joint capsule of hip
What innervates glute min?
Superior gluteal nerve
What actions does glute min perform?
Abduction and medial rotation
Tensor fascia lata origin and insertion?
Origin: anterior superior iliac spine and anterior iliac crest
Insertion:IT tract
What innervates tensor fascia lata?
Superior gluteal nerve
What does tensor fascia lata do?
Tenses the IT tract thereby stabilizing thigh on leg.
Thigh abduction.
Piriformis origin and insertion?
Origin: ventrolateral aspect of sacrum
Insertion: greater trochanter
What does piriformis do?
Laterally rotates an extended thigh.
Abducts a flexed thigh.
Superior gemellus origin and insertion?
Origin: outer surface of ischial spine
Insertion: medial surface of greater trochanter
What innervates superior gemellus?
Nerve to obturator internus
What does superior gemellus do?
Laterally rotates an extended thigh.
Abducts a flexed thigh.
Stabilizes hip joint.
Obturator internus origin and insertion?
Origin: inner surface of obturator membrane and obturator foramen
Insertion: medial surface of greater trochanter
What innervates obturator internus?
Nerve to obturator internus
What does obturator internus do?
Laterally rotates an extended thigh.
Abducts a flexed thigh.
Stabilizes hip joint.
Inferior gemellus origin and insertion?
Origin: ishchial tuberosity
Insertion: medial surface of greater trochanter
Innervation of inferior gemellus?
Nerve to quadratus femoris
What does inferior gemellus do?
Stabilizes hip joint.
Laterally rotates an extended thigh.
Abducts a flexed thigh.
Quadratus femoris origin and insertion?
Origin: lateral border of ischial tuberosity
Insertion: quadrate tubercle and intertrochanteric crest
What innervates quadratus femoris?
Nerve to quadratus femoris
What does quadratus femoris do?
Lateral rotation and stabilization of hip joint.
