Work 3 Muscular system Flashcards
- Describe two types of muscle contraction
Isotonic- Tension of muscle increases to decrease muscle length
Concentric- tension increases muscle length decreases
Eccentric- tension decreases muscle elongates
Isometric- Tension never exceeds muscle load so muscle does not elongate.
- How long does each muscle contraction cycle last
7-100 milliseconds
- What is the difference between treppe and tetanus
Treppe- The muscle repeatedly building up tension
Tetanus- The muscle limit of force generation
- Muscle fatigue impairs performance what causes muscle fatigue?
Lactic acid buildup impairs calcium binding inhibits muscle
Depletion of oxygen to muscles inhibits muscle
Muscle tear when overused
- Describe the differences between Skeletal, Smooth, and Cardiac muscle
Skeletal muscle must contract all at once to aid in breathing.
Cardiac muscles- contract in a way that pushes blood. have long refractory periods and do not fatigue. Intercalated discs in cardiac muscle only.
Smooth muscle has no fibrils, has different contraction system, and rely on both external and internal calcium intake.
- Which type of muscle does not have myofibrils
Smooth Muscle
- What cellular feature allows smooth muscle to contract in peristaltic fashion?
Gap Junctions
