Anatomy Final part 4 Flashcards
- What portion of the pituitary gland produces hormones?
Anterior, or adino hypocsis
- How does the hypothalamus communicate with the pituitary gland?
They communicate through capillaries connecting them
- What is the target for ADH and what effect does it cause?
ADH targets kidneys and has them reabsorb water
- Where is the tyroid gland located?
Front of the top of your adam’s apple(your neck)
- What is the inactive compound stored in thyroid follicles?
Thyroglobulin
- Name two thyroid hormones and describe their target tissues.
T3 and T4 they target just about any cell or tissue they up-rate the production of just about anything
- How many parathyroid glands are there, and what do they produce?
4 of them produce Parathyroid hormone which increase body’s Ca and enhances resorption rate by kidneys and gut increases osteoclast development
- What are the three targets of PTH? Does it work directly on those targets?
Kidneys(increases calcitriol production) Bones
- What two parts of the adrenal glands have separate endocrine functions?
Medulla, and cortex
- How many functional layers exist in the adrenal cortex? Why is this significant?
3 each zone produces different hormone
- What hormones are produced by the adrenal medulla?
eponephrine , noreponephrine
- Which endocrine gland produces melatonin?
Pineal gland. (Melatonin inhibits reproductive function
- How much of the pancreas is endocrine in function?
32. What does the other (exocrine) part do?
1%
Exocrine= pancreas helps with digestion
- What do pancreatic alpha cells produce?
What do beta cells produce?
Alpha- glucagen
Beta- Insolen
- Can non-endocrine tissues produce hormones?
Yes
