Noun types (4)
Proper- Refers to names of people or places.
Abstract- Refers to states, feelings and ideas which do not have a physical existence.
Concrete- Refers to objects with a physical existence.
Collective- A noun that identifies a group of individuals
Pronouns (3)
Personal- Can replace a noun and identify in terms of person.
demonstrative- Orientates the reader/ listener to an idea either nearby or further away.
Indefinite- Refers to a person or object that is non specific
Verbs (4)
Dynamic/ material- Shows actions or events
Stative/ Relational- Identifies states of being
Auxiliary- A verb that forms tense or mood of other verbs
Modal auxiliary- A verb that shows degree of certainty, probability or possibility
Adjectives (3)
Base- The basic form of an adjective
Comparative- A form used to compare two instances by adding –er
Superlative- Identifies the best example
Adverbs (4)
Manner- Answer the question ‘how?’
Place- Answer the question ‘where?’
Time- Answer the question ‘when?’
Frequency- Answer the question ‘how often?’
Conjunctions (2)
Co-ordinating- Links words, phrases or clauses together where equal
Subordinating- Links clauses where one is dependent on the other
