What is a verb phrase?
Verb phrase is a two word phrase that shows time and an action
For example:
I am studying (verb phrase = am studying)
is being coined (verb phrase = is being)
What types of sentences are there?
Simple- A simple sentence is an independent clause with no conjunction or dependent clause.
(such as the cat sat)
Compound- A compound sentence is two independent clauses joined by a conjunction
(such as the cat sat and the dog sat)
Complex- A complex sentence contains one independent clause and at least one dependent clause.
(such as Because my coffee was too cold, I heated it in the microwave)
Compound-complex- A compound-complex sentence contains multiple independent clauses and at least one dependent clause.
(such as We won the game, but my uniform was muddy because it rained the entire time)
What types of clauses are there?
main clause= a clause that makes sense on its own
(such as the cat sat on the mat)
Subordinate clause= a clause that is reliant on another main clause
(such as the cat sat on the mat because it was lazy)
what is a noun phrase?
A noun phrase consists of a noun with modifiers added on to it
A noun phrase usually performs the same function as a noun ( could be replaced with a noun and still make complete sense)
