s/s of primary dysmenorrhea
lowed abd pain radiating to lower back/thighs, nausea, diarrhea, fatigue, and HA
tx of primary dysmenorrhea
Heat, exercise, NSAIDs, birth control pills
What is secondary dysmenorrhea usually caused by?
pelvic disease, ages 30-40 tpyically
**Rarely lasts more than 2 days
s/s of secondary dysmenorrhea
Unilateral, constant pain, possible dyspareunia, painful defecation, and irregular bleeding.
**Lasts longer than 2 days
When does primary dysmenorrhea usually occur?
Begins within first few years of menses
Which treatment may be used for abnormal bleeding if the woman still wants kids in the future?
Myomectomy
Important question to ask when considering abnormal bleeding treatment
If the woman still has a desire to have kids in the future
What problem can occur if endometrial lining builds up and is not shed?
Toxic shock syndrome (TSS)
s/s of TSS
High fever, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, myalgia, and sunburn-like rash.
What is a major sign of endometrial cancer?
Bleeding or spotting after menopause
What age does menopause typically occur
Age 51
How long must you go without menses to be considered menopause?
One full year without any periods
What two main things do estrogen protect from?
CAD (decreased cholesterol build up) and Osteoporosis
What position do you want someone with PID to be in?
Semi-Fowlers. Helps decrease spread
