Women In Sport Flashcards

Q
Analyse and evaluate problems faced by women participating in sport activities and strategies used to increase participation.
A
- Less opportunities such as clubs or teams——— There is a huge drop out rate in girls in football after age of 16 due to lack of clubs or teams that they could participate in———- form more football clubs or teams for girls aged 16 or above or create a gender neutral clubs where both male and female could participate in.———- However, women could still fear the myths about women not having enough physical strength to play football and therefore they will not participate.
- Traditional domestic role, meaning that if a women has a child then it is mainly her responsibility to take care of the child———- no longer can participate in sport activities due to lack of time and this decreased participation——— create clubs that offer nurseries that will take care of the child or crate more local nurseries that are open at nights so women have opportunity to participate———however, not every women will have an opportunity to leave their child at nurseries or attend clubs that offer it due to financial issues. Decreased participation as nurseries can be too expensive and therefore unable to afford it.
- Stereotypes about physical strength——- less participation of women in sports like boxing because they could fell that are are physically unable to participate in this sport——— educate people in school from young age that sports have no gender and anyone can take part in them, no matter the sport field——— However, some may still feel less confident in boxing because there is still domestic gender which therefore make them less confident to participate in boxing
