Explain 4 types of anxiety
A
- Cognitive- psychological anxiety eg feeling nervous/ lack of motivation. If performer develops cognitive anxiety before game, could cause to lose concentration, as overwhelming.
- Somatic- physical, usually result of cognitive anxiety eg. sweating, increased heart rate, shaky muscles. Inc HR, player might panic so distract him and could lose a game.
- Competitive trait- when anxiety is felt in all competitive situations.
- Competitive state- occurs before specific movements or aspects of the game.

Three ways in which anxiety is measured and their advantages/ disadvantages
A
- Progressive muscular relaxation- reduces symptoms of muscular tension as focusing on each muscle group so feel less stressed
- Biofeedback- highlights situations that performer is most stressful at, so easier to manage stress at particular situations
- Breathing control- concentration on breathing rate/ depth so help to control breathing when stressed.
