What were the legal rights of Women in the Weimar Republic?
In Weimar Constitution, Article 119, granted equal rights between men and women. The constitution also gave women the right to vote, maternal rights and equality of marriage law, and the right to work.
How did the Nazis emphasize the role of women?
Through the slogan ‘Kinder, Kuche, Kirche’ (Children, Kitchen, Church). This effectively took away all of the social liberties that the Weimar Republic granted including the right to work.
How were women rewarded by the Nazis for producing children?
With the Motherhood Cross. Bronze for 4 children, silver for 6 and gold for 8 children. This happened yearly on 12th August.
Why were women not allowed to work?
Hitler believed that if a woman worked, it would affect their health.
Why did the Nazis allow women to work during the war?
Because the men went off to war there was a demand for workers in the factories. Women were encouraged to work a ‘Patriotic Duty Year’ to support with the Nazis ‘Economic Miracle’.
How were women equal in the FRG?
Equal rights was granted in Article 3 of the FRG’s constitution. This was followed by the ‘Law of Equality of the Sexes’ which gave women freedom to work without their husband’s permission.
Why was women’s emancipation limited in the FRG?
The traditional role of women that was emphasized by the Nazis, was now being emphasized by the Catholic Church.
Despite the concessions granted by the FRG’s constitution why was still inequality between men and women?
In term of pay, the average woman’s wage was less than half of the average man’s.
Why were women significant after the WW2?
With so many men dead or captured, the burden of clearing the wreckage fell to women. The Trummerfrauen cleared away bodies and debris of destroyed cities, collecting and stacking bricks so that they may be used to rebuild the cities.
