Why did Hindenburg appoint Hitler chancellor in 1933?
Von Papen and Schleicher could not control the Reichstag and did not solve the problems in Weimar. The idea was with Von Papen as Vice Chancellor and Hindenburg, they could control Hitler and Hindenburg that any party including the Nazi party was better than the Communists.
Why did Hitler call another Reichstag election in 1933?

Joseph Goebbels was in charge of all of Wiemar’s media equipment and therefore could run an extensive propaganda campaign. Violence from the SA to the opposition also helped sway voters.

The Nazis blamed the Communists and used this as the basis to use Article 48 to arrest the majority of the Communist politicians which removed the Nazis main political competition.

The Nazis had again managed to miss out on the majority of the seats in the Reichstag which would have allowed them to pass new laws to change the constitution and git rid of democracy.

The party continued to harass, kidnap and murder its main political opposition. This bullied them into submission to allow the Nazis to pass laws.
What was the Enabling Act?
The act gave the power of government to the chancellor and his coalition for the next four years. this essentially by-passed the Weimar constitution and dismantled democracy.
What was the Nazis coordination policy?
The party took over all aspects of public life, eg. schools, police force, postal services. This helped to Nazify Germany by moulding national identity and loyalty to the party.
Why did the German elites gravitate toward Hitler?
German Imperialist officers saw the Nazis as the restorers of national pride and a return to traditional values.
What was the Night of Long Knives?
The SS orchestrated the mass execution of Rohm and the leading members of the SA on 30th June 1934. 200 members were assassinated which earned the support of the army.
How significant was Hindenburg’s death?
When Hindenburg died on the 2nd August 1934, Hitler was able to merge the offices of chancellor and president to create the Fuhrer and there was no one left to oppose him.
