What is the general caution when using purgative formulas?
misdiagnosis and purging patients that don’t need to be purged can quickly deplete a patient.
Also - as soon as bowel movement is achieved - formula should be discontinued.
Yang Ming Channel heat is cleared by venting. Why does Yang Ming Bowel heat require a different methhod?
YM channel: qi level heat, formless heat, get rid of by venting.
YM bowel: deeper heat - drain downward because it is a formed heat actually in the interior. Need to help purge because our body’s natural tendency is to move up and the heat is creating a qi stagnation. We need to “give it a kick”.

Sx: sudden, severe epigastric and abdo pain and distention, cyanotic complexion, a bluish purple tongue, and submerged tight pulse
notes: when severe, there may also be loss of consciousness
