wk 6- blood vessels Flashcards
arteries of gluteal region what are they and what muscles do they supply and what ratios do they arise from
Superior gluteal artery - Supplies Gluteus maximus, medius, minmus & Piriformis.
Arises from Internal Illiac artery
Inferior gluteal artery - Supplies Gluteus maximus, all deep gluteal muscles (except obturator ext.)
Arises from Internal Iliac artery
Arteries of Anterior Compartment of Thigh what is it, what muscles does it supply, where does it begin and terminate + turn into?
Femoral artery - Supplies the anterior thigh muscles.
Descending genicular artery
It is the continuation of external iliac artery (deep to inguinal ligament).Gives off a branch that becomes the Deep femoral artery/Profundis femoral artery.
Travels through femoral triangle, Adductor Canal -> at Adductor Hiatus the femoral artery continues as the Popliteal artery (termination)
Arteries of Posterior Compartment of Thigh, what is it, what does it supply, where does it arise from and when does it terminate
Deep Femoral/Profundis Femoris artery - Supplies the posterior thigh muscles.
Arises from Femoral artery (a collateral branch).
Supplies posterior compartment of thigh (via perforating branches) and terminates as the 4th perforating artery.
Arteries of Medial Compartment of Thigh what are they, what muscles do they supply, where do they arise from and where are they terminated
Obturator artery - Supplies the medial thigh muscles.
Arises from internal iliac artery (a collateral branch) -> passes through obturator canal
Terminates into an anterior and posterior branch.
van comitantes
when 2 deep veins pair with a single artery in the leg foot or popliteal regions
examples in
- Anterior tibial artery
– Posterior tibial artery
– Fibular/peroneal artery
superficial inguinal lymph nodes
Form in two groups, one of which is the upper and the other, lower.
Superior Superficial inguinal lymph nodes
Immediately below the inguinal ligament.
Inferior Superficial inguinal lymph nodes
Lay vertical along terminal part of great saphenous vein.
deep inguinal lymphnnodes
lie deep on medial side of femoral vein
types of branches 2
Collateral branches – arise
between the origin and
the termination of the
artery e.g. deep femoral
artery
• Terminal branches – arise
at the most distal end of
the artery e.g. Internal
and external iliac arteries
what is a neuromuscular bundle?
vein artery and nerve complex
superior/inferior gluteal neuromuscular bundle
vascular anatomoses
A vascular anastomosis is a normal
collateral communication, directly
or indirectly, between two blood
vessels
- Three types
1.Arterial
2.Venous
3.Arteriovenous
located in dermis of skin and microscopic
trubutaries are?
A vein that drains into a
larger vein
more arteries or veins in body?
veins
major role of lymphatic system 3
- Drains excess interstitial fluid
- Transport dietary lipids
- Carries out immune responses
what artery, nerve and vein is in the adductor canal?
femoral artery, vein and saphenous nerve
what artery, vein and nerve is in the femoral triangle
femoral vein, artery nerve
