Winter Ops Flashcards
When is runway considered contaminated?
> 25% covered
How and when do you complete an engine run up?
In icing conditions run engines at 70% for 30s every 30 mins
When freezing precipitation every 10 mins
What do you do if holdover time expires?
If no precipitation take off
If precipitation, visual inspection carried out and possibly de ice again
What are the exceptions to the clean aircraft concept?
3mm of frost on the underside of the wing
Thin hoar frost allowed on fuselage, radome and engine cowl
When should EAI be selected after start?
Temp below 10*C and visible moisture or if icing conditions expected below accel altitude
If structural ice expected, what minimum approach speeds should be flown in conf 3 and conf full?
Conf 3 = VLS+10
Conf Full = VLS+5
Describe characteristics of type 1 de-icing fluid
Orange colour
Non thickened
Short holdover time
Generally used for de icing
Describe the characteristics of type 2 de-icing fluid
Straw coloured
Contains thickening agent
Lowest usable temp are approx -25*C
Describe characteristics of type 4 de-icing fluid
Green in colour
Contains thickening agent
Thicker than type 2 with longer holdover times
