Flight Controls Flashcards
How many elevators are there?
2
What computers control the elevators and what’s the redundancy?
ELAC2 normally
ELAC1 if 2 fails
SEC1 or 2 if double ELAC fault
Which hydraulic sources power elevators?
Elev 1 by Green (Blue back up)
Elev 2 by Yellow (Blue back up)
When will back up hydraulic system become active with regards to elevator?
If the hydraulic system fails or if ELAC2 fails
How does THS move? What hydraulic system powers it?
THS mounted on a screw jack which rotates to move it.
Powered by 2 motors. Yellow and Green
Which computers control THS and how?
3 electric motors control 2 hydraulic motors
ELAC 2 powers motor 1
If that fails ELAC 1 will power motor 2
If both fail a SEC will power motor 2 or 3
How many ailerons does a/c have?
2
Which hydraulic systems power ailerons?
Primary Green
Back up Blue
Which computers control ailerons?
ELAC 1
ELAC 2 if 1 fails
If both fail, SECs control roll via spoilers
Which spoilers make up ground lift dump?
All 5
Which spoilers make up speed brakes?
Middle 3
Which spoilers make up roll control?
Outer 4
What is the SEC sequence for the spoilers?
2 1 1 3 3 fuselage 3 3 1 1 2
When will spoilers deploy on landing
Both main gear on ground and idle selected
If not armed, when reverse thrust selected
If spoiler deployed and it’s SEC fails what happens?
It will retract
If spoiler deployed and associated hydraulic system fails what will happen?
Maintain last position (may be blown back)
How is rudder hydraulically actuated? Redundancy?
Actuated by 3 jacks connected in parallel.
All 3 hydraulic systems power it
Primary Green
Secondary Yellow
Back up blue but no automatic movement and AP drops out
Which hydraulic sources power the spoilers?
GYBYG FUSELAGE GYBYG
Which computers control rudder?
ELACs calculate inputs and FACs control them
How does the rudder travel limiter function?
At high speeds it limits rudder movements to prevent excess strain on fuselage
At high speeds what happens if you apply full rudder input?
Get full rudder deflection
If rudder travel limiter fails in flight what happens?
Maintains last setting, motors to low speed setting at flaps 1 to allow full deflection
How does rudder trim operate?
2 motors control rudder trim and artificial trim
Motor 1 powered by FAC 1
Motor 2 powered by FAC 2
Rudder trim controller and reset are inhibited with AP on
5 conditions that inhibit speedbrakes?
Config full TOGA AoA protection Elevator fault SEC 1 and 3 fail
Above what speed will the spoilers deploy on RTO?
72kts
What is phased lift dump? When does full lift dump occur?
Partial spoiler deployment when only one main gear grounded. Once other gear grounded get full spoiler deployment
How many slats and flaps are there?
5 slats on each wing
2 flaps on each wing
Which hydraulic system actuates the flaps and slats?
Flaps Green and Yellow
Slats Green and Blue
Calculated by 2 SFCCs
If hydraulic system fails or SFCC fails what is the effect on flap/slat deployment?
Travel at half speed
What happens when flap handle is moved?
SFCCs check the position of the surfaces and then energise the power control unit to drive the surfaces.
Position pick off sensors in the gear box stop the surface at its desired position
What happens if flap mechanism fails?
Causes one or more surface to flap around. This is detected and surface is disconnected
What happens if slats or flaps deploy unevenly?
Asymmetric pick off unit is looking for asymmetric deployment.
It will then deploy wing tip brakes to prevent further movement
