- George IV attempted to divorce his wife, with the help of the Prime Minister who attempted to pass a bill through parliament, known as the Bill of Pains and Penalties.
- public opinion was in support of Caroline, so the government dropped the divorce
- lead to criticism of the King and Liverpool’s government, from both inside and outside of parliament, and riots were widespread.
