A

Duties were removed on a number of items e.g. rum and
silk. In 1825, duties on coal were removed, as was window duty on small houses, which helped the working classes. This helped to stimulate trade and employment.

A

originally passed in 1650 but were relaxed in 1823. As a result, trade to and from Britain’s colonies was permitted to use non-British shipping, charges made on port facilities were reduced and colonial trade restrictions were removed. The result was a free flow of trade.

the penal code was reformed:
- The death penalty was abolished for over 180 offences.
- Juries were made aware of their responsibilities during a trial.
- The whole penal system became more humane and tolerant.
prisons were improved:
- The Gaols Act (1823) was passed.
- Gaols were set up in every county and major town.
- Prisons were to be inspected by magistrates on an annual basis.
- Prison discipline, medical and educational facilities were to be standardised.
- Gaolers were to be paid.

what was the Metropolitan Police Force act 1829?

introduced the police force, it allowed for 3,000 paid officers in an attempt to reduce crime. it had a significant impact on reducing the crime rate in London and so many
other areas across England would establish their own forces during the 1800s.
