WEEK4- Paediatric ILS Flashcards
what do you add from paediatric bls to conduct paediatric ils
same as paediatric bls with the addition of safe shocking
at what age do we perform paediatric ils
12 years old or younger
how many joules do we shock for paediatrics
shock energy is based on the patient’s weight. 4J’S PER KILOGRAM
to calculate: 4 x the patient’s weight = how many joules you will use to shock
what’s the difference between adult and paediatric ils
we begin cpr in paediatrics when their heart rate is below 60bpm.
what are the other differences with paediatric ils
greater caution when using a nasal airway adjunct in paediatrics
using devices like opa and npa’s may cause bradycardia.
caused by excessive vagal tone/vagal nerve stimulation
vagus nerve runs from brain through various organs in the body including the airway- easily stimulated in children
what’s the key info for paediatric ils
- 5 rescue breaths
- 10 rounds of 15 compressions with 2 ventilations
- shock at 4 joules per kg
- perform paediatric ils/als on any child between 1-12
- begin ils/als on any child with heart rate of less than 60bpm
insert airways with caution whilst trying to achieve airway patency
