Q

Describe and give an example of restrictive respiratory disease.

A

Q

Describe asthma.

A

Intermittent/ reversible airflow obstruction.
Bronchial hyper responsiveness triggered by infections, smoke, allergies, medication, exercise.
Shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing.
Reversible with treatment.

Q

Describe chronic bronchitis.

A

Excess sputum production most days of the week for more than 3 months.\
Caused by excessive exposure to repeated irritants.
Increased sputum production = narrowing of airways.
Decreased SpO2

Q

Describe emphysema.

A

Destruction of elastic tissues of the lung, alveolar walls and pulmonary capillaries.
Irreversible and progressive.
Decrease elastic recoil, increase airway resistance, V/Q mismatch, decreased SpO2, increased CO2

Q

What type of training would be prescribed for someone with respiratory conditions?
