Define mental illness
A disorder, diagnosed by a medical professional, that significantly interferes with an individuals cognitive, emotional and social abilities.
Define depression
Characterised feelings of guilt, low self worth, mood swings, anxiety, indecisiveness, poor concentration, social withdrawal.
Decreased norepinephrine serotonin and dopamine. ANS dysregulation
What are some management strategies for depression?
Exercise normal guidelines for 10 weeks, medications, behavioural therapy.
Define anxiety.
Anxious feeling ongoing and exist without any particular reason.
Disrupted modulation of the CNS.
What are some management strategies for anxiety?
Medications, Exercise as per normal guidelines 10-15 weeks, relaxation exercises (yoga)
What is the yerkes dodson law?
When there is little stress there is a lack in performance, when there is too much stress there is an increased chance of becoming sick. There is an optimal level of stress where optimum performance is achieved.
What are the roles of an ES in mental health.
