Week 1 Flashcards
What are the three type of injury classification?
Direct, Indirect or Overuse
What is Soft Tissue and What type of injuries occur?
- All Muscle, ligaments, Tendons, Skin, Organs
- Bruise/Contusion, Sprain,Strain
-What is hard tissue and what types of injuries occur?
- Bone or teeth
- Breaks or dislocations
What are Intrinsic and Extrinsic factors of injury?
Intrinsic = Age, sex, gender, fitness, body comp, skill Extrinsic = Other humans, protective equipment, environment
What occurs during the first stage of the injury cycle?
Prevention - The combination of intrinsic and extrinsic factors increase the chance of injury compared to one in isolation. This stage is about minimising the chance of injury from occuring
What is the second stage of the injury cycle?
Incident phase - Assess the injury
Non Responsive = DRSABCD
ON-Field = STOP
OFF-Field = TOTAPS
What is STOP?
S - stop athlete from moving or participation
T - talk to the athlete, what happened? where does it hurt? can you keep playing?
O - Observe body language, injury site for swelling or discolouration, compare to normal
P - Prevent further injury with TOTAPS
What is TOTAPS?
Talk Observe Touch Active movement Passive movement Skills
What is the third stage of the injury cycle?
Protection Elevation Avoid inflammatory products Compression Education Load Optimisation Vascularisation Exercise
