Week 8 Finn- Implants Flashcards
What is a composite defect?
Bone + soft tissue defect
What is required prior to implant placement?
- OPG
- CBCT
- Study models
- Reconstruct osseous and soft tissue defect either prior or during implant placement
Min distance of implant from subjacent tooth?
1.5mm (to have sufficient blood supply)
Min distance between implants?
3mm (otherwise bone will die)
How much buccal bone should there be when implant is placed?
2mm
What depth should implants be placed at?
2.5-3mm (biological width)
Where should posterior region implant be positioned?
Should be positioned in center of future resto, aiming for at least 1.5mm of bone thickness at B and P/L side
How should anterior implants be positioned?
Anterior ridge of implant shoulder should be positioned 1mm palatal to point of emergence of adjacent teeth, aiming for 2mm of bone thickness at facial side.
What 2 important anatomic structures to be careful of when placing implants?
Sinus
IAN
What should we examine on study models?
Examine occlusion for aberrant tooth movements or over eruption. Demonstrate to pt as well
What length of implant should generally be used?
Md: 1cm
Mx: 1-1.3cm
What is VME?
Vertical maxillary excess
- Incompetent lips
- Gummy smile
- Tx: lefort I
