What is a traumatic event? 4 things
- direct exposure to trauma
- witness in person the event as it occurred
- Learning that a close relative/friend experienced a traumatic event
- Experiencing repeated or extreme exposure to aversive details of the traumatic event
What are the types of trauma?
combat, disasters, victimization, community violence, school violence, neglect, traumatic grief, medical trauma, early childhood trauma (ages 0-6), complex trauma
What are the three types of trauma or stressor related disorders?
PTSD, Acute stress, adjustment disorder
What is the DSM criteria for PTSD?
a. exposure to trauma
b. >1 intrusion sxs associated
c. Persistent avoidance of stimuli associated with trauma
d. Negative changes in cognition and mood releated to trauma >2
e. Marked arousal and reactivity associated with trauma
f. More than 1 month
g. Cause clinical distress
h. symptoms are not attributable to other causes
