Indication: anxiety, depression, insomnia
Counseling points:
- Counsel on sun sensitivity, dizziness/drowsiness, anticholinergic side effects, risk of performing activities while asleep without memories after(driving)
- Improvement in depression may not be seen for a few weeks
- Advise against sudden discontinuation
- No alcohol
AndroGel, Androderm
Brand: AndroGel, Androderm
Generic: testosterone
Class: androgen
Indication: metastatic breast cancer, delayed puberty, hypogonadism
Counseling points:
- Apply as directed to upper arm and shoulder and not to genital area
- Allow application site to dry completely before putting on t-shirt
- Wash hands after applying, and do not bathe or swim for 2 h after application
- Women and children should avoid contact with this medication
Humira

Generic: adalimumab
Class: anti-rheumatic, gastrointestinal agent, monoclonal antibody, TNF blocking agent
Indication: psoriasis, arthritis, crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, ankylosing spondylitis
Counseling points:
- For SubQ injection, patient should be instructed on proper injection technique
- Do not administer to skin which is red, tender, bruised, or hard;
- Rotate injection sites and dispose of used needles and syringes properly;
- Store in refrigerator and protect from light;
- Black box warnings: May cause malignancy and serious infections including TB
Cobolin-M

Class: water soluble vitamin
Indication: vitamin B12 deficiency
Counseling points:
- Intranasal: admin at least 1 hour before or after hot foods or liquids
- Subling: leave under the tongue for 30 seconds before swallowing - oral: avoid alcohol
- ER: take with meal and NOT within 2 hours of another drug

Counseling points:
- Increased bleeding risk
- Instruct patient on proper SubQ injection technique
EpiPen

Class: alpha/beta agonist
Indication: hypersensitivity, shock/hypotension
Counseling points:
- Educate patient in the indications and proper use of autoinjector
- Each injector contains 1 injection which should be administered IM in the muscle of the outer thigh
- After use, seek emergency medical help immediately
Enbrel

Class: anti-rheumatic, TNF blocking agent
Indication: arthritis, psoriasis, ankylosing spondylitis
Counseling points:
- For SubQ injection, patient should be instructed on proper injection technique
- Rotate injection sites and dispose of used needles and syringes properly
- New injections should be given at least one inch from an old injection site and never into areas where the skin is tender, bruised, red, or hard
- Store in refrigerator and protect from light;
- Black box warnings: May cause malignancy and serious infections including TB

Counseling points:
- Report worsening of mood
- Monitor for hyper/hypoglycemia (educate on signs/symptoms- nausea!)
- Counsel admin technique
- Counsel missed dose
Zovirax

Generic: acyclovir
Class: antiviral agent
Indication: herpes, chicken pox, shingles
Counseling points:
- Avoid intercourse during herpes outbreak
- Dose and duration depend on indication
- CNS side effects especially in elderly and renal impairment
- DI: with zoster vaccine
- Stay well hydrated
- May be taken with our without food
- Intravenous: avoid rapid infusion; infuse over 1 hour to prevent renal damage; check for phlebitis and rotate infusion sites
Truvada 200/300 mg

Class: reverse transcriptase inhibitor-nucleoside (antiretroviral)
Indication: HIV-1 infection, HIV-1 preexposure prophylaxis
Counseling points:
- Adherence important to prevent resistance
- Take without regards to food, on a regular dosing schedule, to avoid missing doses
- May cause decrease in bone mineral density
- Monitor bone mineral density and supplement with calcium and vitamin D
Sustiva

Class: reverse transcriptase inhibitor- non-nucleoside (antiretroviral)
Indication: HIV-1 infection
Counseling points:
- Use back up contraceptives + barrier method during treatment and for 12 weeks after last dose
- Instruct patient on learning drug effect before operating machinery
- Take missed RIGHT AWAY
- Take on empty stomach (prefer at bedtime to avoid adverse effects)
Baraclude
Brand: Baraclude
Generic: entecavir
Class: reverse transcriptase inhibitor- nucleoside (anti-HBV) (antihepadnaviral)
Indication: chronic hepatitis b
Counseling points:
- May cause HA, N/V, and fatigue
- Take on an empy stomach (wait 2 hours before or after a meal.)
- Advise against sudden discontinuation of drug due to HepB exacerbation.
Sovaldi

Generic: sofosbuvir
Class: NS5B RNA polymerase inhibitor (antihepaciviral), (Anti-HCV)
Indication: chronic hepatitis c
Counseling points:
- Avoid pregnancy
- May cause fatigue, HA, insomnia, decreased appetite
- Avoid St. John’s Wort
- Do not chew pellets
- Drug can be mixed with non-acidic soft foods (pudding) at room temperature or less
