- Extended release tablet; swallow whole, do not crush, chew, or spit
Duragesic

Generic: fentanyl transdermal
Class: opioid analgesic
Indication: chronic pain
Counseling points:
- Caution for respiratory depression: Do not exceed prescribed dose
- Exposure of the patch to high temperatures will result in increase of drug released from patch and potential toxicity
- Properly dispose of used and unused patches: Remove from pouch, fold so adhesive sticks to itself and flush down toilet
- Patch is left in place for several days, normally 72 hours, but this may vary in some patients
- CYP 450 3A4 drug interactions
- Do not drive or operate heavy machinery due to impairment of mental and physical abilities
Lidoderm
Brand: Lidoderm
Generic: lidocaine topical patch
Class: topical analgesic, local anesthetic
Indication: minor, localized pain
Counseling points:
- Do not apply to broken skin
- Do not leave patches on for more than 12 h within a 24-h period
- May cut prior to removing the release liner to fit a specific body area
- Wash hands after handling and avoid contact with eyes
- After removal, fold patch onto itself and properly discard out of reach of pets and children
