Week 5 Terms: Statistics Flashcards
Independent Variable
The ‘x’ variable that causes a ‘y’ variable
Dependent Variable
The ‘y’ variable that occurs due to the manipulation of the ‘x’ variable
Regression
Line that we fit on a model of data to minimize the space between dots on a plot (regression line)
Correlation Coefficient
Statistical measure of the strength of a linear relationship
Standard Error
Coefficient (the ‘p’ value)
P value
Value that leads to the conclusion if you are able to or cannot reject the null hypothesis
Survey data
Individual level data gathered by a survey
Time Series Data
Same unit of analysis observed multiple times
Cross Sectional Data
Data observed at one point in time
Panel Data
Multiple units of analysis over multiple periods of time
Correlation vs. Causation
Correlation does not equal causation, but if causation is there, we have correlation
Experimental vs. Observational Data
Endogeneity
