Week 5 - Bones and Jts Flashcards
Bones of the axioappendicular portion of the body (ARM and shoulder)
Scapula, clavicle, manubrium, sternum, humerus
PECTORAL GIRDLE or SHOULDER GIRDLE joints (3 true joints)
- Sternoclavicular (SC) joint: synovial
- Acromioclavicular (AC) joint: synovial
- Glenohumeral (GH) joint: synovial
- Scapula moves on thoracic wall = not a true joint
Sternoclavicular joints ligaments (3)
+ what lies between the clavicle and manubrium?
Sternoclavicular ligament, costoclavicular ligament, interclavicular ligament
Articular disc
Acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) ligaments
Acromioclavicular (AC) ligament, Coraco-acromial (CA), Coracoclavicular (CC) ligament (trapezoid, conoid lig.)
Function of CA, AC & CC
Function: prevent superior displacement of the humerus in the glenoid fossa (CA)
Function: maintain relationship of clavicle to scapula in elevation of UL (AC & CC)
What happens at the SCJ and ACJ when you protract and retract the shoulder?
Rotation forward and backward of the scapula on the thoracic wall. Winging of scapula during protraction.
IMAGES WILL HELP (Slide 25)
Movements at SCJ & ACJ?
Sagittal Plane: Anterior & Posterior Rotations.
Frontal Plane: Elevation & Depression.
Transverse Plane: Protraction & Retraction
