The basics of delivery? : Voice

A

volume- project so the whole room can hear

rate- don’t speak too slow or too fast , but fairly quickly

inflection- tone of voice, want an expressive tone not monotone
ex. happy, somber, sarcastic

emphasis - vocal words of phrases
ex. I love you

enunciation - don’t mumble do avoid miscommunication

pronunciation - know to pronounce properly especially terminology

pauses - use it strategically pauses, avoid filler words
ex. between points made

A

Frequency - 80 to 90 % eye contact during speech

duration - 2-5 seconds at someone in the audience

balance - all parts of the audience room

disadvantage- negative perceptions

A

Facial expressions- smile, match the points your making
show how you feeling

gestures- help illustrate points, natural , flow , spontaneous

posture- sit or stand will impact voice and perception
open body orientation, relax yet confident

movement- move around the speaking space
own the space lends to closeness and repour

appearance- be well groomed, clothing: think about what audience would wear and try to match or go over one step above
confident and comfortable

A

Conversational- more organic and engaging

confidence- self assurance , calm collected demeanor

immediacy- the presenter showing likability for the audience and themselves
ex. smile, positive eye contact, positive tone, gesture, movement of speaking space

vitality- the speaker showing passion or enthusiasm for their topic
ex. voice , facial expressions, gestures
