Types:
1. Specific instance
-taking a public speaking course helped them become a better writer
- Narrative
-true story ,
purpose- invites interest and involvement , draws the audience in they can connect with - Scenario
not true/ made up
“picture this”… describes/paint a picture of a situation, puts the audience into the scenario
purpose - invites emotional involvement / connection

-acknowledged authorities, experts on the topic
ex. public speaking- professors, authors, Aristotle
- Prestige
-use words or ideas of someone who is not an expert and not necessarily someone with personal knowledge, but beloved and admired, respected , past or present
ex. John F. Kennedy, Nelson Mandela, MLK

What are some general tips for using support?
- Strong Support for every main point
- Offer a variety of support
-quotes, statistics, narratives,
difference audience value different supports
- Use the right type of Support for the Topic Situation , and Audience
-know your audience level of knowledge of your topic
-ex. audience of scientists- use statistics
