What are strong argument practices ?
argument- making a case on why you believe or have value in something or want to see something happen
quantity and quality - a number of arguments, have enough when you can
have strong ones
where you can have both
refutation - counter arguing or addressing the other side positions
acknowledge and address
respectful manner
valid reasoning - don’t engage in fallacies
intentionally or not
What are strong support general best practices?
Variety - stats, narratives, testimonies
Placement - class speech- strong support for all main claims
ideal- offer evidence or support for every claim made
ex. high cost college textbook
“the prices have risen “ both claim and have to support
Lead in - the speaker announcing explicitly that their about to offer evidence or support of their claims
What are the specific types of support
Statistics: Relation and Humanization
relation - you take a statistic , you present then relate it to the audience and what the audience knows or understands or has experiences
Humanization - offer a stat then a person/narrative
puts a face to those numbers
Quotations:
debrief - highlight the significance of the quote to better understand it
Specific Instances and Narrative: use a specific instance or narrative from an audience member w/ permission prior
Contextualization and Back up
follow up to back up with statistics
Scenarios: paint a hypothetical picture

fear appeals can be good or bad
