Radiation management plan
Each facility is required to have an approved plan in accordance with the Radiation Safety act 99 - radiation doses are as low as reasonably achievable

- Use appropriate collimation
- adequate filtration
- use lead shields where applicable

ensure no unnecessary persons in room
provide lead rubber gown and gloves to nurse/relative when restraining patient
appropriate shielding of the room

- xray procedures should be avoided if alternate techniques are available
- if unavoidable, measures should be taken to minimize patient exposure
Radiation protection principles - podiatrist responsibilities
- access all previous relevant films
- confirm that - results will affect patient management, most appropriate examination is being requested
- write all revelvent clinical material on request form
